18th Century Townhouse
In 2006, a devastating fire destroyed much of the interior of this Federal style Center City townhouse. Much of the historic architectural detail and fabric was lost to the blaze. So began the labor of love that would restore the home to its original 18th century glory, not only recreating design work that had been completed nearly 20 years earlier, when clients first purchased the home, but also restoring the historic trim and detail that were inherent to the home's original architecture. All molding and trim profiles were matched and built to the exact original specifications. Fanlights and window fenestration were duplicated. A Federal stripe wallpaper was selected for the living room, with coordinating fabrics, window coverings, and upholstery pieces. An historic color palette was coordinated with the adjoining formal entrance hall, and dining room, which is highlighted with 20" deep crown moldings, chair rails, dado, and picture frame moldings. Wherever possible, existing trims were retained and used in the restoration. Bringing back such a significant piece of architecture is one of the most satisfying projects an interiors firm can undertake.
